2016-11-07 13:48:25 GMT <Worf> hrmm ... is it normal that i can copy files to and from a network drive mapped to alfresco, but not open or edit them?
2016-11-07 14:15:13 GMT <Loftux> Worf: Yes, copy to local drive is essentially the same as download, that you only need Consumer rights for. Upload from local is the same as having Contributor rights, you are creating a new file. So entirely possible scenario that you cannot edit of you do not have edit rights on the file.
2016-11-07 14:21:39 GMT <Worf> Loftux: hrmm ... makes sense, but i have the problem in my own user home ...
2016-11-07 14:21:48 GMT <Worf> ... and it doesn't affect all filetypes
2016-11-07 14:26:42 GMT <Worf> ... sigh ... and it doesn't even seem to be reproducable. But maybe someone changed something. 2 Hours ago i couldn't open a file with Word, and had errors saving a plain text file with a editor. Now the plain text file works as expected and word asks for credentials (and kinda works after getting them)
2016-11-07 14:38:38 GMT <resplin> bhagyas: ohej is working as normal today, but I don't know how much he will be in IRC.

2016-11-07 16:36:51 GMT <fwu> hi all!
2016-11-07 16:45:30 GMT <fwu> ppl, I have a custom xml model file with some types ans constraint already being used in production.
2016-11-07 16:45:43 GMT <fwu> now, Im adding new types and constraint
2016-11-07 16:46:25 GMT <fwu> how should I deploy this without braking Production? Is there any precaution I should have in mind?
2016-11-07 16:46:55 GMT <angelborroy> fwu in general: no deletions and no modifications
2016-11-07 16:47:07 GMT <fwu> for instance, should I increment the version of the model?
2016-11-07 16:47:40 GMT <fwu> angelborroy: yes, my target for now is just add stuff
2016-11-07 16:48:21 GMT <angelborroy> fwu imo you have not to version
2016-11-07 16:48:36 GMT <angelborroy> fwu if versioning, a new prefix has to be used (as is a new namespace)
2016-11-07 16:48:52 GMT <angelborroy> fwu version 1.0 and version 1.1 will be “separated” then
2016-11-07 16:49:52 GMT <fwu> I have 1.0
2016-11-07 16:50:04 GMT <fwu> if I set the version to 2.0, what happens?
2016-11-07 16:50:16 GMT <angelborroy> you need a new prefix
2016-11-07 16:50:25 GMT <angelborroy> for instance “cm” for 1.0 but “cm2” for 2.0
2016-11-07 16:50:49 GMT <angelborroy> so all your code “cm:name” should have to be refactored to consider “cm2:name” also
2016-11-07 16:51:00 GMT <FrancescoSilvani> fwu you can use a patch for your model when you version up your module. you don't need to version up your model
2016-11-07 16:51:01 GMT <FrancescoSilvani> http://docs.alfresco.com/5.1/references/dev-extension-points-patch.html

2016-11-07 16:52:03 GMT <fwu> im usgin 4.2.f Francesco!
2016-11-07 16:53:21 GMT <FrancescoSilvani> works just as well there.
2016-11-07 16:54:48 GMT <fwu> ok, let me see
2016-11-07 16:58:10 GMT <FrancescoSilvani> in the tutorial they make a patch that will apply on any version, so you wouldn't need to version up you module. All patches are only applied once if run successfully. if they throw an error they will be rolled back and alfresco won't start up.
2016-11-07 17:00:32 GMT <douglascrp> fwu, first recommendation, apply your new content model in a copy of your production server
2016-11-07 17:00:37 GMT <douglascrp> don't play with fire :D
2016-11-07 17:00:55 GMT <douglascrp> if it works in the copy, then much probably it will work on the production too
2016-11-07 17:51:55 GMT <fwu> douglascrp, I dont know if I will be able to make a copy of it...
2016-11-07 17:52:08 GMT <fwu> I believe the file size is toobig
2016-11-07 17:52:47 GMT <fwu> but if I let the version with the same number, will it work?
2016-11-07 17:53:07 GMT <fwu> then I dont need to run a patch, right?
2016-11-07 17:54:03 GMT <angelborroy> if you are using a module (AMP or JAR) is better to use a patch, as you can update your model in a “controlled” way
2016-11-07 17:54:36 GMT <angelborroy> But you can update also your model including the same version without patching or versioning the module
2016-11-07 17:59:42 GMT <douglascrp> fwu, dealing with content model is always a risky operation
2016-11-07 17:59:57 GMT <douglascrp> I highly recommend you to try it first in a copy
2016-11-07 18:00:12 GMT <douglascrp> or at least, a snapshot of the virtual machine, if you are using some
2016-11-07 18:02:17 GMT <iwkse> fwu: can't you try on a local installation and import only some data for test?

2016-11-07 18:26:20 GMT <douglascrp> I could not even look at that project anymore
2016-11-07 18:26:26 GMT <douglascrp> priorities changed a lot here
2016-11-07 18:26:46 GMT <douglascrp> AxelFaust, are you going to work on it?
2016-11-07 18:28:36 GMT <AxelFaust> Well - I did work on my project since then and added encryption...
2016-11-07 18:28:51 GMT <AxelFaust> If you say you won't have time to look at S3 stuff then I could certainly pick that up.
2016-11-07 18:29:03 GMT <AxelFaust> I just didn't want to take something that you may want to do yourself...
2016-11-07 18:31:05 GMT <douglascrp> AxelFaust, no, feel free to do whatever you want with it
2016-11-07 18:31:17 GMT <douglascrp> I can even change the project's description and point it to yours after you finish
2016-11-07 18:31:39 GMT <douglascrp> that project is not mine anyway... I simply got it and updated it in order to work with newer versions
2016-11-07 18:31:49 GMT <douglascrp> what I want is to have it working well
2016-11-07 18:33:05 GMT <AxelFaust> Ok - in that case I would probably build something from the ground up (using the current project as a reference) and bundle it in my project.
2016-11-07 18:34:10 GMT <douglascrp> perfect
2016-11-07 18:34:33 GMT <douglascrp> one thing I would do if I had the time is to replace the library for s3
2016-11-07 18:34:39 GMT <douglascrp> there is an issue created for this
2016-11-07 18:34:47 GMT <douglascrp> I don't know, if you want to give it a try
2016-11-07 18:34:48 GMT <AxelFaust> One thing I was wondering (because I got an inquiry from a customer about the addon): How relevant is support for Alfresco 4.2 for such an addon?
2016-11-07 18:35:05 GMT <douglascrp> well, I don't have that requirement
2016-11-07 18:35:40 GMT <douglascrp> I would say not relevant at all, as someone that is going to use s3, probably will have to start from zero
2016-11-07 18:35:47 GMT <douglascrp> so, a new install, why use an old version?
2016-11-07 18:35:50 GMT <AxelFaust> There are quite a few API incompatibilities due to 3rd party library upgrades when compiling against 4.2 + dependencies
2016-11-07 18:35:58 GMT <douglascrp> I see
2016-11-07 18:36:09 GMT <douglascrp> make it compatible with 5.1 and I think it's ok
2016-11-07 18:36:13 GMT <AxelFaust> My thinking exactly - 5.0 should be a reasonable base assumption nowadays
2016-11-07 18:36:18 GMT <douglascrp> yes, 2 versions
2016-11-07 18:36:23 GMT <douglascrp> I think that is enough
2016-11-07 18:36:24 GMT <AxelFaust> It is compatible with 5.1 - I do all the tests on it
2016-11-07 18:36:31 GMT <douglascrp> nice
2016-11-07 18:36:37 GMT <AxelFaust> I just use 5.0 as a baseline
2016-11-07 18:36:45 GMT <douglascrp> when I was working on it, I was using 5.0, if I'm not wrong
2016-11-07 18:36:54 GMT <AxelFaust> (and also have a 5.0 instance for some tests)
2016-11-07 18:37:33 GMT <AxelFaust> You are not wrong - it was using 5.0 at that point. I only recently changed the parent POM to the Acosix Maven one and that implicitly updated the base line to 5.1.g
2016-11-07 18:37:39 GMT <AxelFaust> I will downgrade it again shortly...
2016-11-07 18:38:12 GMT <douglascrp> ok
2016-11-07 18:38:18 GMT <AxelFaust> I still have to create and publish an initial release of that addon, come to think of it.
2016-11-07 18:38:22 GMT <douglascrp> let me know how it goes
2016-11-07 18:38:42 GMT <douglascrp> I can at least try to test it
2016-11-07 18:39:00 GMT <douglascrp> I don't know if you are following a discussion I started yesterday in the community about "cheap vps provider"
2016-11-07 18:39:06 GMT <douglascrp> I think that would be a good test
2016-11-07 18:39:31 GMT <douglascrp> put it to work on a vps with a small disk, just enough for cache, and send all the data to s3
2016-11-07 18:39:40 GMT <AxelFaust> I saw your tweet
2016-11-07 18:41:02 GMT <AxelFaust> I was inclined to mention hetzner which I use for my email server managed host - they also provide VPS. But I don't really know what the expectation is of "cheap" vs. "quality"
2016-11-07 18:45:12 GMT <douglascrp> AxelFaust, I know that can be a problem, but you know... if they accept it, what can I do
2016-11-07 18:45:23 GMT <douglascrp> the only thing I can think of is to keep a good backup in place
2016-11-07 18:49:28 GMT <AxelFaust> With quality I don't necessarily refer to stability, but also other aspects like customer service / support and issue / question resolution time
2016-11-07 18:50:08 GMT <douglascrp> AxelFaust, believe me, I try to explain everything
2016-11-07 18:50:21 GMT <douglascrp> and I try to make everything clean for them
2016-11-07 18:51:45 GMT <AxelFaust> ah - now I found the thread in community.alfresco.com and Cesar already mentioned Hetzner
2016-11-07 18:52:25 GMT * AxelFaust was at customer site the whole day today - so didn't get a chance to look at the community yet
2016-11-07 18:53:13 GMT <douglascrp> no problem
2016-11-07 18:53:30 GMT <douglascrp> I think you should add your answer there, as this can be a reference for someone else
2016-11-07 18:53:49 GMT <douglascrp> 2 saying the same thing is a good thing I guess
2016-11-07 18:54:00 GMT <AxelFaust> Though I don't yet use them for Alfresco - I only have my mail server hosted by them.
2016-11-07 18:54:06 GMT <douglascrp> got it
2016-11-07 18:54:13 GMT <AxelFaust> My Alfresco is still just "on my local system"
2016-11-07 18:54:19 GMT <douglascrp> a totally different situation
