2016-11-18 12:48:01 GMT <fwu> back

2016-11-18 12:48:22 GMT <fwu> I was able to answer to my own question chnaging the following file: advsearch.get.js

2016-11-18 14:19:46 GMT <AFaust> Anyone here using MariaDB with Alfresco 5.1?

2016-11-18 14:26:22 GMT <AFaust> I got a quick question about query planning / optimisation w/ regards to prepared statement in MariaDB...

2016-11-18 14:29:11 GMT <AFaust> Specifically I am seeing some strangely long running selects during "Edit Offline" checkout related to rendition actions, where the SQL explain of the specific query does not provide any indication of an inefficient query. So potentially the query plan might not take the query parameters into account when planning the prepared statement - this is a problem I have seen with DB2 a few times.

2016-11-18 14:35:16 GMT *** ycoulon_ is now known as ycoulon

2016-11-18 14:37:20 GMT <AFaust> And I can actually reproduce the behaviour using command line DB client, e.g. executing the query directy it is blazingly fast, executing it as a prepared statement and it takes half a second...

2016-11-18 14:53:21 GMT <yreg> AFaust, you may want to ask bhagyas because I know for sure their alfresco installer defaults to MariaDB

2016-11-18 14:58:18 GMT <AFaust> Then I hope they can tell me what MariaDB settings are required to ensure prepared statements are re-optimized before execution

2016-11-18 14:58:27 GMT <AFaust> bhagyas: You hear me?

2016-11-18 15:06:14 GMT <bhagyas> Hey

2016-11-18 15:06:49 GMT <bhagyas> ping Loftux

2016-11-18 15:07:20 GMT <AFaust> ok

2016-11-18 15:11:55 GMT <Loftux> yreg: If you are thinking of the ubuntu installers doesn't default to any database. It is a separate step after the install, and you have a choice to use any of the installer helper scripts for mysql, mariadb and postgresql. That said, I've used Mariadb only for small installations, but never analyzed in detail or seen the issue AFaust is having.

2016-11-18 15:13:11 GMT <AFaust> Argh - I was afraid of that.

2016-11-18 15:13:37 GMT <AFaust> Cue the inevitable customer question: "Surely we can't be the only ones using MariaDB with Alfresco."

2016-11-18 15:13:52 GMT <AFaust> "Such an issue must have been seen by someone before."

2016-11-18 15:14:14 GMT <AFaust> Loftux: To be honest, the system in question is pretty small too.

2016-11-18 15:14:20 GMT <AFaust> Only 40.000 documents so far...

2016-11-18 15:15:14 GMT <AFaust> They only "experimented" with Alfresco until now, and finally decided to be serious about using it.

2016-11-18 15:18:46 GMT <Loftux> AFaust: Have you upgraded? I've seen that some of the db:s upgraded are missing indexes on alf_node_properties according to the schema check.

2016-11-18 15:18:59 GMT <AFaust> I have upgraded.

2016-11-18 15:19:36 GMT <AFaust> It is not an issue of indices as the query itself performs well when executed with the "actual" parameters. It is only that the prepared statement does not execute correctly.

2016-11-18 15:19:50 GMT <AFaust> Even with the same parameters.

2016-11-18 15:19:52 GMT <Loftux> That could actually be cool to have as part of the ootb support tools, if the schema check can be triggered and listed.

2016-11-18 15:20:34 GMT <AFaust> Hmm - would have to check the SchemaBootstrap bean about how much of that could be reused without too much copy&paste

2016-11-18 15:21:26 GMT <alfbot> jpotts: Sent 6 days, 18 hours, and 21 minutes ago: <resplin> What is the ALF number for the update to generate_keystores.sh? Does it cover Solr6 and the problem you listed?

2016-11-18 15:22:16 GMT <AFaust> Back to my issue: This different query performance behaviour between simple SQL query and prepared statement is a significant indicator that the query optimizer is choosing the wrong plan for the prepared statement.

2016-11-18 15:22:32 GMT <AFaust> Unfortunately I have not found a way to get a EXPLAIN from a prepared statement.

2016-11-18 15:24:38 GMT <jpotts> ~later tell resplin SEARCH-208 is the one I was thinking of but I also see the script mentioned on MNT-16139

2016-11-18 15:24:38 GMT <alfbot> jpotts: The operation succeeded.

2016-11-18 15:32:16 GMT <AFaust> Hmm - the query duration wouldn't be that bad if the RenditionedAspect didn't load the rendition definition on every onUpdateProperties

2016-11-18 15:34:42 GMT <AFaust> And there wouldn't be that many onUpdateProperties if the damn LockService would set the lock properties more efficiently with one call to addProperties instead of five individual setProperty calls, effectively being 5-times as expensive as it should be...

2016-11-18 16:02:26 GMT <ericLemanissier> Hello, is it supported to use a standard Solr instance (like https://hub.docker.com/_/solr/) with alfresco ? Is the configuration process documented somewhere ?

2016-11-18 16:21:30 GMT <jpotts> ericLemanissier: If you are talking about replacing what Alfresco uses internally, no. If you don't want to touch what Alfresco is doing and you just want to add an additional search technology to index your content, of course you can do that. But it is up to you to figure out how to do it.

2016-11-18 16:21:54 GMT <jpotts> For example, some people use the Apache ManifoldCF project to index Alfresco (and other repositories) into external search engines

2016-11-18 16:27:24 GMT <ericLemanissier> jpotts: My question was about replacing the solr war file provided with alfresco. Thanks for your answer

2016-11-18 16:28:22 GMT <jpotts> ericLemanissier: Yeah, it's a commonly-asked question. Unfortunately it just is not possible.

2016-11-18 17:21:09 GMT <yreg_> ericLemanissier, I think you can rely on that image in order to create your own solr-for-alfresco image

2016-11-18 17:21:45 GMT <yreg_> Or mabe better to use a tomcat image

2016-11-18 17:23:32 GMT <yreg_> just make sure to swap that solr war you have with the one alfresco releases, and do not forget to get config from alfresco repos

2016-11-18 17:24:09 GMT <yreg_> you may want to check Loftux install script: https://github.com/loftuxab/alfresco-ubuntu-install/blob/master/alfinstall.sh#L723 for detailed steps for installing solr

2016-11-18 17:24:10 GMT <alfbot> Title: alfresco-ubuntu-install/alfinstall.sh at master · loftuxab/alfresco-ubuntu-install · GitHub (at github.com)

2016-11-18 17:34:27 GMT <jpotts> Ah, I thought the goal was to replace Solr with a different version. My bad.

2016-11-18 17:34:41 GMT <ericLemanissier> jpotts: thanks anyway !

2016-11-18 17:35:29 GMT <yreg_> jpotts, I guess he just wanted to containerize solr

2016-11-18 18:05:47 GMT <ericLemanissier> Actually, i already contenerized it in docker, using a standard tomcat image, and "inserting" alfresco's slor.war file and config files

2016-11-18 18:06:27 GMT <ericLemanissier> i am looking forward to replacing alresco's solr.war by an official solr.war file

2016-11-18 18:06:40 GMT <ericLemanissier> it was a desperate attempt to get better performance out of solr

2016-11-18 21:06:19 GMT <jpotts> Hmm, you used to be able to set the calendar to use a given day of the week as the first day of the week using a config option called firstDay, but that seems to be gone in 5.x.

2016-11-18 21:06:38 GMT <jpotts> Start the week on Sunday, for example

2016-11-18 21:07:58 GMT <jpotts> Ah, maybe this is it: calendar.widget_config.start_weekday
