Daily Log for #alfresco

2018-06-13 00:05:39 GMT <alfresco-discord> <mbui> Sumit_: On server reboot you may have some other services booting postgres on port 5432 thus "blocking" any other connection to 5432. You can look into that or have alfresco use postgres on a different port which isn't used by any other service.

2018-06-13 06:01:39 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> Do you have a service in place to start the DB at OS startup?

2018-06-13 06:51:17 GMT <alfresco-discord> <twen> Good morning guys

2018-06-13 07:07:44 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> Good morning @twen

2018-06-13 07:07:46 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> πŸ˜ƒ

2018-06-13 07:13:33 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @kgastaldo I don't see why you have to go through such a painful task, when you can just bring back addons site and add a GDPR header.

2018-06-13 07:14:34 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> The new space for add-ons (as well as the community forum) will still require GDPR compliance, so it's not helping raise the initial concern at all.

2018-06-13 07:52:13 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> hey @bhagyas that addon site was a drupal site, so the same concerns Ian Norton (Director of Marketing) has with that site, would be the same as the main alfresco.com site, which is also drupal, so suspect its not really GDPR, also drupal has a bunch of GDPR solutions available. I think your list may well be the defacto place to go, till something better can be established, maybe something on ootb?

2018-06-13 08:11:44 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> yeah

2018-06-13 08:14:12 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> was wondering whether alfresco.com is GDPR safe ?

2018-06-13 08:14:24 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> πŸ˜ƒ

2018-06-13 08:29:34 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @digcat it's not

2018-06-13 08:30:07 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> but they seem to be very much worried about the add-ons site

2018-06-13 08:30:34 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> yes, well the marketing department seems to be

2018-06-13 08:31:10 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> I think add-ons site might be having some products that directly compete with Alfresco's vertical offerings

2018-06-13 08:31:36 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> so to blame poor sales, they probably asked the site to be taken down :p

2018-06-13 08:32:07 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> yep, sales and marketing running the show, i saw an article from the late steve jobs on that situation

2018-06-13 08:37:29 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> any thoughts on which verticals?

2018-06-13 08:55:54 GMT <allen> Hello All, i need use properties and associations elements in alfresco, i dont know to use, can you please share the link

2018-06-13 08:58:54 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> probably worth starting here https://docs.alfresco.com/

2018-06-13 09:23:37 GMT <apus> hi, does anyone know why a webdav mounted alfresco might have the following problem: not all files in a folder are shown. it stops at 20 or so, i haven't counted them yet. windows 10

2018-06-13 09:37:44 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> Might be linked to lenghts of path

2018-06-13 09:38:00 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> I had this issue when the windows limit was reached

2018-06-13 09:38:03 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> 256 chars

2018-06-13 09:38:43 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> in Windows 10, you can normally change this limit

2018-06-13 09:39:35 GMT <apus> just found this here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/912152/you-cannot-access-a-webdav-web-folder-from-a-windows-based-client-comp could that be what you mean?

2018-06-13 09:44:16 GMT <hiten> Hi Guys

2018-06-13 09:44:43 GMT <hiten> I am trying to create a patch that will add a custom folder under Email Templates folder

2018-06-13 09:45:13 GMT <hiten> I am able to achieve this using Importer Module

2018-06-13 09:45:23 GMT <hiten> but the challenge comes in case of tenants

2018-06-13 09:45:40 GMT <hiten> as they are not bootstrapped

2018-06-13 09:46:25 GMT <hiten> now alfresco I believe do have a way to do that as Data Dictionary and others folders are created for each tenant

2018-06-13 09:46:47 GMT <hiten> and in search of that I figured out patch-services-context.xml

2018-06-13 09:47:18 GMT <hiten> here I can find the list of patches with difference in the class that they are using for patching

2018-06-13 09:48:55 GMT <hiten> I am using AbstractModuleComponent for patching and the beans in the patch-services-context.xml uses AbstractPatch

2018-06-13 09:49:27 GMT <hiten> and AbstractPatch do provide a property private boolean applyToTenants;

2018-06-13 09:49:37 GMT <hiten> which I beileve can be useful for me

2018-06-13 09:50:02 GMT <hiten> so before investing more of time in this I would like to know

2018-06-13 09:50:31 GMT <hiten> What is the difference between the patching/bootstrapping with AbstractModuleComponent and AbstractPatch

2018-06-13 09:50:33 GMT <hiten> and

2018-06-13 09:51:14 GMT <hiten> Whether the bootstrapping of folder through AbstractPatch will work in my case

2018-06-13 09:51:17 GMT <hiten> Please help

2018-06-13 09:56:30 GMT <angelborroy> hiten Not many people is using tenants

2018-06-13 09:56:45 GMT <angelborroy> hiten probably you’ll have to test it to discover if it works or not

2018-06-13 09:57:00 GMT <hiten> hmm

2018-06-13 09:57:55 GMT <hiten> even we are avoiding but there are certain old accounts that are on tenants

2018-06-13 09:58:13 GMT <hiten> and we need to figure out a solution for them

2018-06-13 09:58:53 GMT <hiten> also we provide a quick access(free trials) to our services by creating a tenants

2018-06-13 09:59:12 GMT <hiten> so in those cases also we need to have the issue figured out

2018-06-13 09:59:25 GMT <hiten> so, I guess I will have to try it out :)

2018-06-13 09:59:33 GMT <hiten> Thanks BTW

2018-06-13 09:59:45 GMT <angelborroy> come back and tell us how it goes ;-)

2018-06-13 09:59:51 GMT <hiten> sure

2018-06-13 10:15:10 GMT <angelborroy> allen as someone suggested you before: https://docs.alfresco.com/search/site/all?keys=%3Cassociation%3E

2018-06-13 10:15:12 GMT <alfbot> Title:Search | Alfresco Documentation (at docs.alfresco.com)

2018-06-13 10:18:10 GMT <allen> angelborroy, sorry i did not see and thank you

2018-06-13 10:39:04 GMT <apus> hm no the registry entries i found were not the solution. it seems to be the problem of path length too long, because another folder with >100 files lists them just fine, but then there are no files in there that have a long name. does anyone know how i can adjust the length limit?

2018-06-13 11:01:19 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> It is not that apus

2018-06-13 11:01:56 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> not this registry I meant

2018-06-13 11:02:30 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> Just try it out. In a working folder, try to add a new file with a short name. See if you can find this file

2018-06-13 11:02:37 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> Then rename it and add more characters

2018-06-13 11:03:48 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> at some point, some files will probably not show-up anymore

2018-06-13 11:04:00 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> because of this long-named file

2018-06-13 11:09:23 GMT <apus> so there is no way around it, some way to change the limit?

2018-06-13 11:10:14 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> I told you there is a registry for that in Windows 10 normally

2018-06-13 11:10:26 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> but first, you should make sure it is this problem...

2018-06-13 11:10:44 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> before even trying to change registry entries

2018-06-13 11:13:52 GMT <apus> i just confirmed it, there are 3 files with a total path length > 260

2018-06-13 11:15:55 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> shorten their names and see if they start appearing

2018-06-13 11:17:29 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> If yes, then you are looking for the LongPathsEnabled registry

2018-06-13 11:17:42 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> if I remember properly

2018-06-13 11:24:01 GMT <apus> all files are listed if i shorten the filenames of those 3 files. registry key for filesystem does not work however.

2018-06-13 11:24:25 GMT <apus> seems to have no affect at all on the webclient webdav network drive

2018-06-13 11:25:13 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> You set the LongPathsEnabled to 1?

2018-06-13 11:25:32 GMT <apus> yes

2018-06-13 11:25:36 GMT <apus> in the registry

2018-06-13 11:26:14 GMT <apus> in the Control\FileSystem folder as seen here: https://www.howtogeek.com/266621/how-to-make-windows-10-accept-file-paths-over-260-characters/

2018-06-13 11:28:41 GMT <apus> FreeBSD has such a path limit as well, it's just linux and the systems based on it, that don't have such a silly limitation. i mean the problem has been there for a decade as far as i could figure out. if that isn't enough time to resolve it, i don't know.

2018-06-13 11:31:36 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> You restarted your computer?

2018-06-13 11:32:06 GMT <apus> sure, first i enabled it, then i restarted the computer, then i tested, then i shortened the file names on my linux system, then i hit refresh and all files showed up

2018-06-13 11:33:23 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> I only faced this issue where it was not possible to workaround this because older clients and servers

2018-06-13 11:33:35 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> So I never actually solved it other than using shorter names

2018-06-13 11:34:02 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @digcat I think they are working on a number of vertical integrations (custom solutions) including contract management and DAM

2018-06-13 11:34:34 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> Are you on an AD domain apus? Could you try to remove the limitation using GPO?

2018-06-13 11:35:21 GMT <apus> no i don't have an AD domain

2018-06-13 11:38:14 GMT <apus> i guess i'll just have to ensure i use shorter names. or ban windows systems from using alfresco ^^ how i wish i didn't have to deal with windows anymore.

2018-06-13 11:46:19 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> If you find a solution, let me know

2018-06-13 11:46:27 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> I believe it should work with some tricks...

2018-06-13 11:46:38 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> But might require something in addition to the LongPathsEnabled

2018-06-13 11:46:43 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> It might be only local

2018-06-13 11:47:33 GMT <apus> i don't think i will. the problem seems to be that microsoft guarantees that its api never returns anything longer than 260 and they don't intend to change it. the longpathsenabled registry entry seems to be for ntfs only. but Explorer itself needs to be recoded. https://serverfault.com/questions/232986/overcoming-maximum-file-path-length-restrictions-in-windows

2018-06-13 11:47:34 GMT <alfbot> Title:Overcoming maximum file path length restrictions in Windows - Server Fault (at serverfault.com)

2018-06-13 11:47:41 GMT <apus> but should i find something out, i'll let you know, no problem

2018-06-13 11:49:54 GMT <apus> but it would be nice if i at least get an error when trying to access directories with a too long filename in there. i mean, it should tell me about it and not just silently stop listing files. someone really messed handling this problem up.

2018-06-13 12:06:19 GMT <alfresco-discord> <kgastaldo> @bhagyas - The old addons site wasn't secure in general, in addition to GDPR concerns. There were several costly things that would need to be done to get it compliant, so we've decided to replace the site in Jive. It's painful and time-consuming, but the fastest way to get the content back online.

2018-06-13 12:07:06 GMT <alfresco-discord> <kgastaldo> @bhagyas and @digcat - alfresco.com is GDPR compliant

2018-06-13 12:08:11 GMT <apus> does anyone know if there is a manual on how to make alfresco GDPR compliant?

2018-06-13 12:09:50 GMT <alfresco-discord> <kgastaldo> @bhagyas and @digcat - Sales and marketing did not ask that addons be taken down. Addons is not considered a competitor. Ian explained the situation with the site. Taking it down was a "we have to do something about this right now and this is what we have capacity to do, while we sort it out." I'm putting all that content back online as we speak. Also, for what it's worth - we aren't in a situation

2018-06-13 12:09:50 GMT <alfresco-discord> with "poor sales."

2018-06-13 16:57:26 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> @kgastaldo about the https://community.alfresco.com/community/alfresco-addons, I liked it

2018-06-13 16:57:44 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> it is way better than the single page with the table

2018-06-13 17:09:45 GMT <alfresco-discord> <kgastaldo> @douglascrp - it's better, but it'll need tweaking. I'll build out a landing page with lists like "most popular"

2018-06-13 17:09:59 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> that is enough

2018-06-13 17:10:02 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> better than nothing

2018-06-13 17:15:52 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> @kgastaldo We have a brazilian alfresco users group on whatsapp, and I shared the new page with them

2018-06-13 17:16:03 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> one of them have already said that the page is good

2018-06-13 17:28:18 GMT <alfresco-discord> <mbui> @kgastaldo Looks good, I prefer browsing the addons here: https://community.alfresco.com/community/alfresco-addons/content Could probably improve upon filtering/searching for addons. Not sure if it's already possible, but it would be cool to sort addons by popularity such as views, likes, bookmarks and comments.

2018-06-13 17:28:51 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> @mbui +1

2018-06-13 18:31:18 GMT <eswbitto> Need a little guidance...So I am testing out an install where I've moved my postgres to a separate container. I have an existing testing environment where I have a directory of alf_data/postgres/* and when I installed this test from the installer I chose not to install postgres....So now....where do I point this install to see that directory?

2018-06-13 18:32:41 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Mark> I'm not sure I understand your question. You should probably either just create a new data folder on your database container, or copy the folder over.

2018-06-13 18:33:57 GMT <eswbitto> Mark I would like to do that, but in the main install where alfresco lives (tomcat, solr, etc) what file do I modify so that alfresco knows to update that directory?

2018-06-13 18:34:01 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> eswbitto, you don't need that directory if you are not using the installer provided postgres server

2018-06-13 18:34:16 GMT <eswbitto> ok

2018-06-13 18:34:31 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> that one is like the "postgresql install folder"

2018-06-13 18:35:07 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> but if you install it using another method, like apt-get on ubuntu, that folder will be created in another place, but you don't need to know where, as alfresco will never touch that folder

2018-06-13 18:35:14 GMT <eswbitto> douglascrp I'm referring to the directory created under alf_data

2018-06-13 18:35:24 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> all you have to do is to configure the database connection string, and alfresco is going to use that

2018-06-13 18:35:33 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> yes, exactly

2018-06-13 18:35:39 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> forget about that folder if you are not using the installer

2018-06-13 18:35:45 GMT <eswbitto> ok

2018-06-13 18:35:50 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> I mean, if you are using an external postgresql

2018-06-13 18:35:56 GMT <eswbitto> I am.

2018-06-13 18:36:12 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> in that case, that folder should not even exist inside of alf_data folder

2018-06-13 18:36:17 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Mark> Yes. That's not exactly an install folder, but a data folder. It contains your database and configuration for it. Your Alfresco and Tomcat running without database don't need it. On your postgres container, you can just create a new database. This will create a similar folder for you. You can forget about this folder unless you need to copy over the database contents to your new container.

2018-06-13 18:37:10 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> @Mark exactly

2018-06-13 18:37:39 GMT <eswbitto> What I did was create a dump and then imported into my postgres container.

2018-06-13 18:38:03 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> eswibitto, that is exactly what you have to do

2018-06-13 18:38:34 GMT <eswbitto> logs show that I'm connected to the database, but alfresco isn't running.

2018-06-13 18:39:03 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> there should be another error message somewhere

2018-06-13 18:40:58 GMT <eswbitto> douglascrp this is the only error that I get.

2018-06-13 18:43:49 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> that can be the reason

2018-06-13 18:44:43 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Mark> It is a bit weird how a failed workflow deployment can halt the entire system on startup..

2018-06-13 18:45:19 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> that is normal

2018-06-13 18:45:44 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Mark> I know, but it doesn't make too much sense

2018-06-13 18:46:23 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> if you consider workflows are important for other parts, it wouldn't make sense to let alfresco start without them

2018-06-13 18:46:48 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Mark> Right, site invites and such. For addons though, meh.

Is there a property I can change to set the keystore/truststore used for outgoing SOLR communication by Alfresco?

2018-06-13 18:47:49 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Mark> If there is, I either can't remember it or haven't seen it.

2018-06-13 18:48:23 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Mark> Incoming SOLR communication works just fine after configuring the stores in server.xml.

2018-06-13 22:11:38 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> actually should rephrase that, wondering what password reset module would be worth adapting to alfresco 6

2018-06-13 22:34:12 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> hey @douglascrp thats great thankyou, I hadnt seen that first one, that looks more recent

2018-06-13 22:34:25 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> yes

2018-06-13 22:34:36 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> but I am almost sure there is another one, but I can not remember who created it

2018-06-13 22:36:02 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> yep but that helps, hows things for you in Brazil, keeping busy?

2018-06-13 22:36:21 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> yes, I have too much on my lap

2018-06-13 22:36:50 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> I can not complain about not having work to do πŸ˜„

2018-06-13 22:37:07 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> ha, yes I know that situation, and yes better that than not πŸ˜ƒ

2018-06-13 22:37:23 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> but sometimes is good to have some free time

2018-06-13 22:37:45 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> im gonna have another go at getting to OH in the morning, hopefully ill be coherent

2018-06-13 22:37:58 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> I am trying to learn angular, but I can not invest the time I wish I could

2018-06-13 22:39:04 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> yes, i started down that path, but have recently been following the react path, as seems its better for mobile, still rather not have too but seems its becoming a necessary, drupal 8 moving towards react as well, so no escape !

2018-06-13 22:39:31 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> im still on the scala path as well, just cant help myself

2018-06-13 22:39:31 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> in my case, it is because of the ADF

2018-06-13 22:40:08 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> yes, the ADF components, although using REST react isnt so bad

2018-06-13 22:40:18 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> and as I have no experience with any js framework, I can not tell which one is better

2018-06-13 22:40:35 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> I am just trying to adapt for what alfresco is giving us

2018-06-13 22:40:51 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> once I am able to develop something using it, then I can try to learn something more

2018-06-13 22:40:52 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> yep, same same, id rather not be, this node.js stuff still not convinced

2018-06-13 22:41:11 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> I have heard the vue.js is also good

2018-06-13 22:41:16 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> how you going with kubernetes etc

2018-06-13 22:41:25 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> I know nothing about it

2018-06-13 22:41:36 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> actually, I got a free course I am watching

2018-06-13 22:41:48 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> https://classroom.udacity.com/courses/ud615

2018-06-13 22:41:49 GMT <alfbot> Title:Udacity (at classroom.udacity.com)

2018-06-13 22:42:04 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> but I have watched only 2 videos so far

2018-06-13 22:42:32 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> yes, another platform to learn, ive been playing with rancher, just to add more complexity, (wonders how to simplify my life !!! ) πŸ˜„

2018-06-13 22:42:34 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> so, one more thing to learn πŸ˜„

2018-06-13 22:42:40 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> hehe, never ending

2018-06-13 22:42:46 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> I have not idea what rancher is πŸ˜„

2018-06-13 22:42:53 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> I think I have enough

2018-06-13 22:43:04 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> get this rancher with kubernetes running inside,

2018-06-13 22:43:23 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> hehe, definitely a scary prospect i think

2018-06-13 22:43:24 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> but again, docker and kubernets, just because of alfresco

2018-06-13 22:43:29 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> yep

2018-06-13 22:43:43 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> in the end, it is good to learn new things

2018-06-13 22:44:08 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> are you hearing much about docker in Brazil? any customers using it yet?

2018-06-13 22:44:16 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> nothing about that

2018-06-13 22:44:42 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> yep, i mentioned kubernetes to a customer, they replied kuber what

2018-06-13 22:44:49 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> πŸ˜›

2018-06-13 22:45:33 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> ah, and I am trying to learn spring boot

2018-06-13 22:46:43 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> hehe, yeah the new spring stuff does look good but another thing to try and get on top of

2018-06-13 22:46:52 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> yes
