Daily Log for #alfresco

2018-06-26 06:30:22 GMT <jack> hi everyone

2018-06-26 06:30:40 GMT <jack> i am new to this field

2018-06-26 06:31:23 GMT <jack> how can i add a custom field in update profile of alfresco process service

2018-06-26 07:18:47 GMT <digcat> ~later tell jpotts i read your blog post, and agree with most of it, although, wouldnt your plan be replicating this http://orderofthebee.org/addons/ initial effort ?

2018-06-26 07:18:47 GMT <alfbot> digcat: The operation succeeded.

2018-06-26 07:44:27 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> Good morning folks

2018-06-26 07:44:28 GMT <digcat> ~later tell jpotts so adding to this https://github.com/OrderOfTheBee/addons/blob/master/addon-web/addons-listing.json

2018-06-26 07:44:28 GMT <alfbot> digcat: The operation succeeded.

2018-06-26 07:44:35 GMT <digcat> morning yreg

2018-06-26 08:56:14 GMT <AFaust> ~later tell digcat: I don't think it would duplicate the efforts at all. 1) the listing Jeff proposes comes without any review mechanism, 2) the review mechanism proposed under OOTBee never worked due to lack of participation / effort

2018-06-26 08:56:14 GMT <alfbot> AFaust: The operation succeeded.

2018-06-26 08:57:18 GMT <AFaust> ~later tell digcat: Also, including review into any listing would / should make that listing also cost something for Open Source addons (or require an even higher premium from commercial ones to compensate for time / effort of dealing with Open Source ones)

2018-06-26 08:57:18 GMT <alfbot> AFaust: The operation succeeded.

2018-06-26 09:00:30 GMT <AFaust> ~later tell jack: Not sure if you will be logging in again with the same nick, but just in case: Regarding your question of customizing the (user?) profile in Alfresco Process Services, unfortunately almost everything apart from processes / task forms in APS is so hard-coded and without any documented / viable extension points, that you cannot really just add a new field. Even if you could, the persistence is limited to the default schema where

2018-06-26 09:00:30 GMT <alfbot> AFaust: The operation succeeded.

2018-06-26 09:00:30 GMT <AFaust> properties are individual columns (not like in Alfresco Content Services where you can just add an aspect to enhance a user profile)

2018-06-26 09:40:43 GMT <kkore> I want to do the document Archive? how we'll do

2018-06-26 09:47:00 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> kkore can you elaborate ?

2018-06-26 09:47:39 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> do you want to create an archive in the sense of records management ?

2018-06-26 09:47:59 GMT <kkore> document archive for re-use documents from yearly or between dates

2018-06-26 09:48:42 GMT <kkore> doing for DMS

2018-06-26 09:53:22 GMT <kkore> <yreg>Suppose I want to move files between time period of 2017-04-01 to 2018-04-01 to archive in sites

2018-06-26 09:53:23 GMT <fwu> hi all

2018-06-26 09:53:34 GMT <fwu> AFaust, thank you for yesterday help

2018-06-26 09:55:28 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> kkore you assume I know too much of your usecase

2018-06-26 09:56:50 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> in order for any one here to be able to help, we need to have enough context of what you are trying to do, what you have tried so far and where are you blocking

2018-06-26 10:00:56 GMT <chandu> Hello All, Is there any documentation to integrating with alfresco process service?

2018-06-26 10:02:25 GMT <kkore> <yreg> I am trying function like email archive in outlook ,want to implement same for documents

2018-06-26 10:05:46 GMT <AFaust> chandu: There is only the Share Connector (see https://docs.alfresco.com/process-services1.9/topics/share_connector_features.html), which is already slated to be discontinued (likely not supported on ACS 6.0 / APS 2.x)

2018-06-26 10:05:47 GMT <alfbot> Title:Share Connector features | Alfresco Documentation (at docs.alfresco.com)

2018-06-26 10:06:19 GMT <AFaust> chandu: Or do you mean integrating in general? Then check https://docs.alfresco.com/process-services1.9/topics/process_services_api.html

2018-06-26 10:06:21 GMT <alfbot> Title:Alfresco Process Services REST API | Alfresco Documentation (at docs.alfresco.com)

2018-06-26 10:12:56 GMT <chandu> Afaust thanks for your response, By default H2 database is there in the process service but i want to change the database from H2 to mysql.

2018-06-26 10:13:17 GMT <AFaust> Then.... just do it?

2018-06-26 10:59:34 GMT <chandu> Afaust: I followed https://docs.alfresco.com/process-services1.9/topics/installing_process_services_app.html

2018-06-26 10:59:35 GMT <alfbot> Title:Installing the Process Services App | Alfresco Documentation (at docs.alfresco.com)

2018-06-26 10:59:46 GMT <chandu> but getting Caused by: liquibase.exception.DatabaseException: java.sql.SQLException: Connections could not be acquired from the underlying database!

2018-06-26 11:00:15 GMT <chandu> Connections could not be acquired from the underlying database!

2018-06-26 11:13:41 GMT <AFaust> ~later tell chandu: You need to provide error logs with such statements, otherwise no one can help you. I can imagine you just forgot to add the JDBC driver...

2018-06-26 11:13:41 GMT <alfbot> AFaust: The operation succeeded.

2018-06-26 11:53:47 GMT <tushar> hi all

2018-06-26 11:54:29 GMT <tushar> i wanted to know if there is any way we can acess enviournment variables in alfresco-global.properties file ?

2018-06-26 12:07:52 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> Sorry for offtopic, what is the purpose of the alfbot besides spamming this channel?

2018-06-26 12:10:53 GMT <AFaust> DenysVuika: alfbot is a bot in IRC

2018-06-26 12:11:42 GMT <AFaust> I don't know / see where / how it is spamming, but it is used in IRC for some commands (to which it provides feedbacks if they have been used correctly or not)

2018-06-26 12:11:54 GMT <AFaust> I would not classify "feedback" as "spam"

2018-06-26 12:12:46 GMT <AFaust> It also captures the history in the background and exports it to chat.aflresco.com

2018-06-26 12:13:36 GMT <AFaust> One thing that I could live without that may be considered "spammy" is the feature of expanding links to the page title...

2018-06-26 12:14:13 GMT <AFaust> tushar: Yes, by injecting them into your Spring beans via ${} placeholders...

2018-06-26 12:14:31 GMT <AFaust> or do you mean actual environment variables from the OS and reference those?

2018-06-26 12:18:59 GMT <AFaust> OS-level environment variables are not available by default without customisation

2018-06-26 12:34:47 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @DenysVuika alfbot was running for keeping the IRC history, on chat.alfresco.com - it has no purpose on discord though. But it has some bells and whistles like user alerts when they come online - or looking up the last seen time

2018-06-26 12:35:20 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> tushar you can inject the bean global-properties into your bean and access all global properties

2018-06-26 12:35:43 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> when chat.alfresco.com (eventually) dies, alfbot will probably be gone as well

2018-06-26 12:35:56 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> Thanks for the info. I thought the bot went crazy because I saw plenty of "AFaust: The operation succeeded." messages

2018-06-26 12:36:02 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> @DenysVuika is there an ETA for faceted search in ACA ?

2018-06-26 12:36:10 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> yeah, the bot is quite verbose

2018-06-26 12:36:11 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> hehe

2018-06-26 12:36:59 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> @yreg the ADF is out and I believe the ACA goes out by the end of this week

2018-06-26 12:37:51 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> that would be nice

2018-06-26 12:38:01 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @DenysVuika does this mean we are finally getting a share replacement with ADF? ❀

2018-06-26 12:38:20 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> @bhagyas that's still a long way to go ...

2018-06-26 12:39:06 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> at least for as long as a proper extension mechanism is not yet in place

2018-06-26 12:39:24 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @yreg I think they can look at homebridge plugin system for inspiration

2018-06-26 12:39:31 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @DenysVuika ^

2018-06-26 12:39:55 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> would love to have a discussion on that sometime

2018-06-26 12:40:06 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> a technical one to one, instead of marketing people talking about angular and its benefits

2018-06-26 12:40:10 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> :p

2018-06-26 12:40:15 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> Sure, sounds good

2018-06-26 12:40:37 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> @bhagyas one thing for sure, they are open to suggestion and constructive criticism, so if you have any examples/inspiration source, please go ahead and forward those to the team and make your case

2018-06-26 12:40:49 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @DenysVuika ill send u a ref to how the homebridge plugins are loaded

2018-06-26 12:41:02 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> @bhagyas, @yreg I might suggest to involve John Knowles in the discussion. Just to know the roadmap too, in this specific case.

2018-06-26 12:41:05 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> somehow it reaches out to the NPM environment and figures and loads installed plugins

2018-06-26 12:42:03 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> have made my apartment fully homekit compatible with it, so has had some good experience with its module system

2018-06-26 12:42:12 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> ^_^

2018-06-26 12:42:56 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> I'm working on the extensibility spec for the plugins (json format), and also thinking to utilize NPM as well. Will try to share some drafts soon

2018-06-26 12:44:37 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @Francesco Corti is John Knowles on discord?

2018-06-26 12:44:45 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> @DenysVuika please share as early as possible to avoid potential effort duplication and benefit from others' experience

2018-06-26 12:44:59 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> I don't so... but I'm inviting him now.

2018-06-26 12:45:20 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @DenysVuika we can have a ADF channel on Discord if you prefer

2018-06-26 12:45:34 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> but my feeling is this would fit better on #general discussion

2018-06-26 12:45:39 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> since it affects all of us

2018-06-26 12:46:36 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> I think we can have separate channel when there are many topics and we want to redirect them so that people don't fall asleep πŸ˜„ I'm fine with general so far

2018-06-26 12:46:44 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> yeah, okay

2018-06-26 12:46:46 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> ^_^

2018-06-26 12:47:47 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> also homebridge plugins can have a TS interface, where we have exposed what methods to override

2018-06-26 12:47:51 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> which is even nicer

2018-06-26 12:47:59 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> Yeah, in node.js world I did tones of plugin-based systems. Really easy there

2018-06-26 12:48:29 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> Trying to address the serverless scenario though, when composition happens on the client.

2018-06-26 12:48:48 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> but the UI wouldn't be on the serverless, right>

2018-06-26 12:48:59 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> I don't think anyone does UI on serverless

2018-06-26 12:49:25 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> Welcome @harrypeek nice to have you here!

2018-06-26 12:49:34 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> was at Google cloud serverless event yesterday at Google Sweden

2018-06-26 12:49:48 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> woah! @Francesco Corti good to have @harrypeek here πŸ˜„

2018-06-26 12:50:25 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> @harrypeek is always available... especially to work with the external community of tech (and not tech) people.

2018-06-26 12:50:57 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> I invited all the PMs here... @harrypeek is the first. πŸ˜ƒ

2018-06-26 12:51:08 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> Nice ❀

2018-06-26 12:51:40 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> I thought I saw Ole a few days back here as well

2018-06-26 12:51:55 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> but I think he got here without registration

2018-06-26 12:52:13 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> (Or maybe it was the IRC bridge bot)

2018-06-26 12:52:27 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> anyway welcome Harry

2018-06-26 12:52:58 GMT <alfresco-discord> <harrypeek> nice to be here!

2018-06-26 12:54:04 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @DenysVuika wouldn't you be using Ts to create the extensibility interface for plugins?

2018-06-26 12:55:59 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> @bhagyas thinking of the mixture, some sort of the json-only composition + advanced scenarios , for json + Ts code

2018-06-26 12:56:36 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> For sure will share more details when I have practical things πŸ˜ƒ

2018-06-26 12:58:25 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> I think we should have the standard Share extension points as starters

2018-06-26 12:58:52 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> like, Actions list, document previewer, menu customisations, feature toggles, reordering, overriding

2018-06-26 12:59:10 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> document library views, etc

2018-06-26 12:59:11 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> πŸ˜ƒ

2018-06-26 14:24:58 GMT <AxelFaust> I mean, that does not require "installing a VM" (locally)

2018-06-26 14:29:55 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> A warm welcome to @ohej too!

2018-06-26 14:30:00 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> Nice to see you there.

2018-06-26 14:55:36 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> @yreg I used in the past a firefox or chrome extension that could simulate IE

2018-06-26 15:06:35 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> @MorganP I want to reproduce a bug a user reported against IE

2018-06-26 15:06:59 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> tried even playing with user agents on firefox/safari but couldn't get a reproducer

2018-06-26 15:09:33 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> What I usually do, run everything on mac, run VM with IE, setup host/nat networking and use IE only as a client/browser. No need setting up anything there

2018-06-26 15:10:02 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> Works even with live reloading and ADF, IE keeps reloading in the VM

2018-06-26 15:12:56 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> and how do you handle windows license expiration ? snapshots ?

2018-06-26 15:17:25 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> if you use IE VM to access your local machine you don't need to care about license, do you? just throw the VM to the trash can after you are finished testing πŸ˜ƒ

2018-06-26 15:19:20 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> If you get the Virtual Box version, guess it comes with the NAT network adapter, you can add host-only as secondary one, find your machine IP and use IE against your host machine. So IE inside VM is a client for your development environment

2018-06-26 15:19:48 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> in 30 days you can dispose and setup a new VM with fresh license

2018-06-26 15:23:29 GMT <AxelFaust> DenysVuika: I don't know how you'd feel if end-users used Alfresco Enterprise images that way (with data export/import to bridge trashing the container instance)

2018-06-26 15:23:48 GMT <AxelFaust> i.e. keep using the 30 day trial

2018-06-26 15:25:28 GMT <AxelFaust> "continuous testing" and "I am just making sure I don't loose my test data so I don't have to redo too much work" could be nice excuses...

2018-06-26 15:25:43 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> I'm just repeating what MS says for those "testing" VMs πŸ˜ƒ

2018-06-26 15:25:50 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/451644531323174914/461190358051586049/Screen_Shot_2018-06-26_at_16.25.13.png

2018-06-26 15:26:50 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> What I was suggesting is to use VM only to use IE as a client, while everything else is on the main laptop/desktop

2018-06-26 15:27:59 GMT <alfresco-discord> <DenysVuika> In that case bug can be reproduced/fixed/tested with the real IE, and without "setup everything on windows" overhead

2018-06-26 15:52:05 GMT <johnn> Hi, I want to call Alfresco Process Services with REST API using Application Development Framework please give me with exam?

2018-06-26 16:35:22 GMT <alfresco-discord> <ohej> oh.. discord fail, I didn't see the new messages had progress since I hit enter

2018-06-26 16:38:28 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> ohej I ended up dusting an old crazy slow laptop and using that

2018-06-26 16:38:34 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> thanks everyone

2018-06-26 16:39:46 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> @ohej there are few interesting features for customising the UI/behaviour in discord, I advise you take a look at those, you can even simulate the look and feel of IRC

2018-06-26 17:27:27 GMT <alfbot> digcat: Sent 8 hours and 31 minutes ago: <AFaust> I don't think it would duplicate the efforts at all. 1) the listing Jeff proposes comes without any review mechanism, 2) the review mechanism proposed under OOTBee never worked due to lack of participation / effort

2018-06-26 17:27:28 GMT <alfbot> digcat: Sent 8 hours and 30 minutes ago: <AFaust> Also, including review into any listing would / should make that listing also cost something for Open Source addons (or require an even higher premium from commercial ones to compensate for time / effort of dealing with Open Source ones)

2018-06-26 17:56:09 GMT <digcat> ~later tell afaust, yes i understand jeffs proposal does not include a review mechanism, and I agree the review should be a value add, I guess my point was more around, we had the alfresco addon site, but that was taken down (not really surprising), but there is also http://share-extras.github.io/ along with the start of the orderofthebee/addons (yes agree not enough participation), a proper outlet shop could be a great idea, which cou

2018-06-26 17:56:09 GMT <digcat> ld allow revenue to be collected, it was more about do we need another site, or should a renewed push improve whats in place so far.

2018-06-26 17:59:20 GMT <digcat> ~later tell afaust, jpotts i get that share is on the chopping block, so understand a new source of addons could be a great idea, if its something which cannot be deprecated like the share addons stuff

2018-06-26 19:28:46 GMT <AFaust> digcat: Share Extras is not comparable to either addons listing or OOTBee addons review. It was just a small umbrella project for various Share features (mostly minor ones). It was primarily used by Will Abson and co for their example dashlets. Only JS Console and maybe Media Previewers were somewhat real-ish addons on their own.

2018-06-26 19:30:23 GMT <AFaust> The benefit of doing something new would be the ability to start fresh and not be bogged down by some previous ideas, i.e. the OOTBee review thingy, or something extremely legacy (Share Extras)

2018-06-26 19:30:26 GMT <alfbot> Title:GitHub - bhagyas/awesome-alfresco: A curated list of awesome Alfresco projects and add-ons. (at github.com)

2018-06-26 19:31:23 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> Anyone can contribute by making a pull request ^_^

2018-06-26 19:34:30 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> I have seen @AFaust putting hard work into reviewing add-ons, but haven't seen any real value being generated out of a review process - first of all, there are no standard practises for extending since most are hacks around Alfresco's code to make them work.

2018-06-26 19:35:14 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> @bhagyas I wouldn't say "most"

2018-06-26 19:35:39 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> *unless you were only adding a content model ^_^

2018-06-26 19:36:43 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> most addons should have ideally be in the core

2018-06-26 19:37:11 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> and the contribution process has been lagged for years, which meant everyone had to build an 'addon' to make something work

2018-06-26 19:37:46 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> eg: OOTB Support Tools

2018-06-26 19:38:19 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> Audit Viewer, etc

2018-06-26 19:38:38 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> + JS Console

2018-06-26 19:53:23 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> hi @bhagyas your point is a valid one, in that most of the addons, are mainly trying to implement features which would be needed in any ecms, rather than addons which solve specific problems for vertical industry sectors. So i guess really its a wait and see what comes out from Alfresco, on how addons might work in the new world of alfresco 6+

2018-06-26 19:55:04 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> @AFaust a clean slate is definitely appealing, but suspect more info should be collected, in terms of what alfrescos new addons structure might be, whether that will cover what the community need or not

2018-06-26 19:58:52 GMT <AFaust> In the Alfresco long-term strategy, there likely will be no place anymore for addons as we know them today. Their declared strategy is to encourage out-of-process extensions using ReST APIs.

2018-06-26 20:00:50 GMT <AFaust> So with Share kicking the bucket and Repository addons transitioning to out-of-process "hook-ons", there won't be anything installable. And since ADF is unlikely to result in any standardised, common and extensible application like Share, I doubt there will be many "plug-and-play" addons there as well

2018-06-26 20:12:49 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @AFaust +1

2018-06-26 20:13:14 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> We are in fact building some of our newer products completely out of repository

2018-06-26 20:14:09 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> No customizations at all, since it would also make it easier to make the product work with other ecm solutions or something we call plan B

2018-06-26 20:14:52 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> 😊

2018-06-26 20:15:48 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> Alfresco is making it easier to get out of Alfresco, and we can’t blame them for that

2018-06-26 21:26:00 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> maybe some clarity will come from alfresco soon, wonder if @Francesco Corti might be able to assemble those who are responsible for addons in alfresco for a Thursday (friday am for me) Office Hours?
