Daily Log for #alfresco

2018-08-20 07:24:03 GMT <alfresco-discord> <twen> Good morning everyone ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

2018-08-20 07:24:11 GMT <bee-bot> <twen> Good morning !

2018-08-20 07:37:40 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @yreg can you please stop echoing with bee-bot?

2018-08-20 07:39:39 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> or I can set it to mute bee-bot, since bee-bot is doing the same as the irc-bridge with Discord

2018-08-20 07:43:07 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> or you can set the IRC-bridge channel on OOTB to disallow sending messages, but only to read - since your goal is archival only

2018-08-20 08:01:01 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> +1

2018-08-20 08:50:06 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> @bhagyas not sure why you always try to push things to the personal level

2018-08-20 08:51:31 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> in any case, I guess you should live with bee-bot echoing messages, same as everybody on IRC is living with the fact alfresco-discord is echoing messages there

2018-08-20 09:08:03 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> Sorry, what? We're talking here about your stated purpose of the bee-bot

2018-08-20 09:08:06 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> which was to archive

2018-08-20 09:08:11 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> and now you're talking about something else

2018-08-20 09:45:08 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> Good to have you here @hi-ko ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

2018-08-20 09:46:59 GMT <alfresco-discord> <hi-ko> Hi @bhagyas - just testing if it's an alternative. I think as long irc is available I prefer the light weigt, old school variant ๐Ÿ˜‰

2018-08-20 09:47:15 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> same here ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

2018-08-20 09:48:10 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> There are some conveniences, including the mobile client I really like

2018-08-20 09:50:39 GMT <alfresco-discord> <hi-ko> I prefer to get my mobile silent when leaving the office but of cource it's a nice UI even on mobile

2018-08-20 09:51:07 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> yup

2018-08-20 09:51:08 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

2018-08-20 09:55:52 GMT <alfresco-discord> <hi-ko> @bhagyas while we're at it doing other things: What our your plans with Alfresco 6? Do you maintain your ubuntu-install or do you plan to switch to docker images? Our customers don't care about docker in production an (still) prefer vm-images

2018-08-20 09:56:49 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @hi-ko I think @Loftux will be able to give a better answer, but I think we have already tested with Alfresco 6 for the Ubuntu install.

2018-08-20 09:56:59 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> We got our own Docker images under construction as well

2018-08-20 09:58:08 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Loftux> I'll update the ubuntu install script for Alfresco 6 as well. Done some prel tests, just need to add a separate start script for ASS, since it will not run as part of default tomcat

2018-08-20 09:58:09 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> I think Alfresco based their Docker images on @angel.borroy images, but made some changes

2018-08-20 09:58:38 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> Our images will be built from ground up, taking newer Docker capabilities into account

2018-08-20 09:59:27 GMT <alfresco-discord> <hi-ko> I did some testing with ubuntu linux containers (lxc/lxd) and would prefer this route if containers are really of iterest since they have better support for production requirements

2018-08-20 10:01:10 GMT <alfresco-discord> <hi-ko> docker images on the other hand also run on windows / mac which is nice for developers but our focus is running production systems secure and efficient

2018-08-20 10:01:36 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @hi-ko I think Docker has already proven itself

2018-08-20 10:01:48 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> That statement might have been true a few years ago, but not anymore

2018-08-20 10:05:57 GMT <alfresco-discord> <hi-ko> @bhagyas I'm not conviced yet but still undecided. For my perception security and maintenance is easier to handle in lxd than in docker even docker is more hype

2018-08-20 10:08:54 GMT <alfresco-discord> <hi-ko> Anyway - it should be easy to to provide the images but not to have the maintenance know how for both in parallel. The market will decide and in our market / for our customers there are no containers for resource hungry beasts like alfresco / solr visible at all - only for light weight apps.

2018-08-20 10:09:41 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> I think easier would be more subjective - Docker tooling and scaling platforms like Kubernetes make it the de facto standard for containers now

2018-08-20 10:11:16 GMT <alfresco-discord> <hi-ko> kubernetes is not bound to docker and for alfresco CE kubernetes is senseless overhead

2018-08-20 10:16:06 GMT <alfresco-discord> <hi-ko> not to get me wrong: I'm a fan of distributed service concepts as supported by kubernetes but alfresco is more or less the opposite of a light weight services and scales only vertical not by clustering

2018-08-20 10:18:16 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> yup

2018-08-20 10:18:33 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> and that's probably why they are trying to break the repository to a million little pieces

2018-08-20 10:20:33 GMT <alfresco-discord> <hi-ko> Anyway - @Loftux, bhagyas : should we take the chance to combine force for a maintenance 6.x fork? It's on our list to (re) build our patched fork based on the latest 6 environment which has a lot of changes.

2018-08-20 10:29:33 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Loftux> @hi-ko We can look into that

2018-08-20 10:42:53 GMT <alfresco-discord> <hi-ko> @Loftux please send me a pm with your findings

2018-08-20 10:56:02 GMT * DarkStar1 greets you all "Good day"

2018-08-20 12:15:58 GMT <yreg> Guys, can anyone confirm that sync subsystem in alfresco 5.2 (I am testing on 5.2.3) has a problem synchronising with this flag unset : synchronisation.syncDelete=false

2018-08-20 12:16:20 GMT <yreg> I am getting NPE for that whenever I try perform a diff sync

2018-08-20 12:33:21 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @yreg I think you misspelled synchronization

2018-08-20 12:33:48 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> not sure if that caused the error

2018-08-20 12:34:15 GMT <yreg> On my system it is alright, couldn't turn off autocorrect for IRC client

2018-08-20 12:34:31 GMT <yreg> Somehow I managed to disable it everywhere else

2018-08-20 12:37:21 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> Maybe you can sync without delete once, and enable and run it once more

2018-08-20 12:37:36 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> I can see a few places in code, that lack necessary null checks

2018-08-20 12:38:06 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> like groupsToCreate and groupParentAssocsToDelete

2018-08-20 12:39:05 GMT <yreg> Yeah, @bhagyas seems to be breaking on deletionCandidates : https://github.com/Alfresco/alfresco-repository/blob/master/src/main/java/org/alfresco/repo/security/sync/ChainingUserRegistrySynchronizer.java#L1944

2018-08-20 12:39:06 GMT <alfbot> Title:alfresco-repository/ChainingUserRegistrySynchronizer.java at master ยท Alfresco/alfresco-repository ยท GitHub (at github.com)

2018-08-20 12:39:43 GMT <yreg> The other two are raw types, and should not be nullables

2018-08-20 12:44:57 GMT <alfresco-discord> <bhagyas> @yreg ouch
