Daily Log for #alfresco

2018-11-16 00:00:21 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> the good thing is this is going to be a huge motivation to get rid of a lot of junk

2018-11-16 00:00:31 GMT <AFaust> Well... I would have assumed my approach when I tried out JDK 9 was the natural one. Switch to JDK 9 without any flags (so whole new features active) and then cut down via flags to see what all needs to be fixed until you can get it running. But maybe they started with all flags for "disable new features" indeed...

2018-11-16 00:00:36 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> and roll up more upgrades

2018-11-16 00:01:21 GMT <alfresco-discord> <john.knowles> not long to wait now anyway, tonnes of releases to ship 😃

2018-11-16 00:02:38 GMT <AFaust> Is there a plan to have at least one GA release with the OpenJDK 11 stuff before moving to GA, or will those two coincide?

2018-11-16 00:02:47 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> I guess no matter how long it takes, it will eventually be released before devcon, so not long indeed

2018-11-16 00:03:04 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> you mean EA ?

2018-11-16 00:03:11 GMT <AFaust> Yeah... typo

2018-11-16 00:03:58 GMT <AFaust> So one EA with OpenJDK 11 before GA, so we can have a tumble to look at it, take it apart and actually see what issues remain to be reported...

2018-11-16 00:04:19 GMT <alfresco-discord> <john.knowles> everyones working hard to pre-Christmas

2018-11-16 00:04:53 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> I just noticed CE was already on JDK 11

2018-11-16 00:05:23 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> blame says it has been as such for two weeks today : https://github.com/Alfresco/acs-community-packaging/blame/master/docker-alfresco/Dockerfile#L3

2018-11-16 00:05:33 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> nice

2018-11-16 00:06:33 GMT <AFaust> Argh... I hate private JIRA issues...

2018-11-16 00:06:42 GMT <AFaust> Want to know what is the deal with https://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/MNT-20126...

2018-11-16 00:08:50 GMT <AFaust> There really should be some sort of international convention that would require every software that claims to be "open source" to open up their issue tracker 100%...

2018-11-16 00:08:55 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> I think I found the magic line for setting up community repo with jdk-11 : https://github.com/Alfresco/acs-community-packaging/blame/master/docker-alfresco/Dockerfile#L104

2018-11-16 00:10:16 GMT <AFaust> No, these security permissions don't really help dealing with Java 11 compatibility

2018-11-16 00:11:34 GMT <AFaust> e.g. I ran all my tests with the old non-Docker Tomcat setup which ran without any security manager, and issues popped up left and right

2018-11-16 00:11:37 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> anyway need to call it a night now as I will need to be in my office in 7 hours or so
