Daily Log for #alfresco

2019-03-27 00:56:23 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> Indeed

2019-03-27 00:56:48 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> I guess these guys have never used the system for real use cases

2019-03-27 00:57:13 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> They are building something, in my opinion, broken

2019-03-27 08:14:49 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> @douglascrp feed back to @Francesco Corti see whether things can be improved

2019-03-27 08:21:04 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> Hi @digcat

2019-03-27 08:21:07 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> Reading it now

2019-03-27 08:22:33 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> So....

2019-03-27 08:22:38 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> As far I understand...

2019-03-27 08:23:39 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> The problem here is that you would like to group properties coming from different types/aspects

2019-03-27 08:23:46 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> (please confirm)

2019-03-27 08:24:17 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> IfI understand correctly, it can be done in the following way

2019-03-27 08:24:38 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> https://www.alfresco.com/abn/adf/docs/content-services/content-metadata.component/#more-complex-example

2019-03-27 08:25:24 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> In short: you are not force to have a group for each single type/aspect. You can group them differently if needed.

2019-03-27 08:26:03 GMT <angelborroy> wow, nice approach

2019-03-27 08:26:05 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> @douglascrp let me know if this is your use case, otherwise I'm happy to hear how to improve things.

2019-03-27 08:26:45 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> @angel.borroy now you are on the dark side... cannot say "nice" to an Alfresco thing (teasing, of course).

2019-03-27 08:27:15 GMT <angelborroy> sorry, I’ll try to remember how it works :D

2019-03-27 08:27:27 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> 😄

2019-03-27 08:28:29 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> (by the way... I don't think I told it here, but I'm very happy @angel.borroy joined Alfresco)

2019-03-27 08:28:59 GMT <angelborroy> give me time, you’ll regret it :-P

2019-03-27 08:29:08 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> everyone can only benefit from this (external community, Alfresco product, etc)

2019-03-27 08:29:09 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> lol...

2019-03-27 08:29:13 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> ehm...

2019-03-27 08:29:22 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> I can change idea... I'll tell it here 😛

2019-03-27 08:29:35 GMT <angelborroy> it took me one week to produce three lines of code

2019-03-27 08:29:38 GMT <angelborroy> :D

2019-03-27 08:29:58 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> I told you: Alfresco needs people like you to improve things. 😉

2019-03-27 08:30:07 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> I was not joking here

2019-03-27 08:30:40 GMT <angelborroy> Happy to help

2019-03-27 08:32:11 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> Back to @douglascrp

2019-03-27 08:32:24 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> The latest improvement to the metadata viewer is the following

2019-03-27 08:32:24 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> https://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ADF-4162

2019-03-27 08:32:45 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> It will be released in ADF 3.1 (planned for the end of this week)

2019-03-27 08:36:43 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> More things to improve: 1) User Experience on editing metadata. 2) Multi-value metadata (the presentation / UX is not ideal) If you have something more to suggest on this topic... let me know.

2019-03-27 08:36:54 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> I'm always open to suggestions to include into the backlog

2019-03-27 08:49:33 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> morning ppl, any clue why 6.1 ent is only listing Java 11 as supported?

2019-03-27 08:49:46 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> http://docs.alfresco.com/6.1/concepts/supported-platforms-ACS.html

2019-03-27 08:49:47 GMT <alfbot> Title:Supported Platforms | Alfresco Documentation (at docs.alfresco.com)

2019-03-27 08:50:11 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> any idea what happens to the support if the customer runs Java 8?

2019-03-27 08:50:14 GMT <angelborroy> Because it’s compiled with Java 11

2019-03-27 08:50:40 GMT <angelborroy> I don’t think you can use Alfresco 6.1 with Java 8

2019-03-27 08:51:27 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> well actually you can

2019-03-27 08:52:33 GMT <angelborroy> If you are using Community, probably

2019-03-27 08:52:44 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> enterprise too angel

2019-03-27 08:52:44 GMT <angelborroy> If you are using Enterprise, you shouldn't

2019-03-27 08:52:50 GMT <angelborroy> ok, no problem

2019-03-27 08:53:02 GMT <angelborroy> then no complains when support reply “not supported"

2019-03-27 08:53:10 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> that is my question

2019-03-27 08:53:59 GMT <angelborroy> yes, and I don’t understand your question

2019-03-27 08:54:03 GMT <angelborroy> why to use Java 8?

2019-03-27 08:54:25 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> the customer had it installed by someone else

2019-03-27 08:54:33 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> I do not want to change all that if it is not needed

2019-03-27 08:54:43 GMT <angelborroy> ok, then it’s needed

2019-03-27 08:57:27 GMT <angelborroy> Anyway, I’m curious to know how are you running Java 11 compiled code with a Java 8 SDK

2019-03-27 08:57:49 GMT <angelborroy> if you want to share this information, I’ll be happy

2019-03-27 08:57:53 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> are syou serious 😄

2019-03-27 08:58:01 GMT <angelborroy> yes

2019-03-27 08:58:02 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> the customer had it installed by someone else

2019-03-27 08:58:09 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> that is what I said 😉

2019-03-27 08:58:14 GMT <angelborroy> yes

2019-03-27 08:58:20 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> I jumped on the project yesterday and am verifiyng what is done

2019-03-27 08:58:33 GMT <angelborroy> but afaik you cannot run Java 11 compiled code with Java SDK 8

2019-03-27 08:58:48 GMT <angelborroy> So probably I’m missing something

2019-03-27 08:59:31 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> yes probably, since it runs perfectly with java 8, so I doubt it is compiled with 11 but I remember Axel was mentioning something about that

2019-03-27 09:00:03 GMT <angelborroy> afaik 6.1 is compiled with Java 11

2019-03-27 09:01:51 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> maybe it uses the target compatibility for 8 or so, no idea right now

2019-03-27 09:02:01 GMT <angelborroy> that makes sense

2019-03-27 09:04:15 GMT <angelborroy> Build-Jdk: 11.0.1

2019-03-27 09:17:34 GMT <alfresco-discord> <drazen04> @AHT With the tag hidden-workflow in share-custom-config.xml i already got that behaviour, but i want that only in the document library for the action "Start workflow". But exists a point out from document library where workflow is called, and i don't want there the same behaviour

2019-03-27 09:43:07 GMT <AFaust> angelborroy / dgradecak: As far as I can see, the maven-compiler-plugin for the Alfresco build is set to have Java source/target version compatibility of Java 8.

2019-03-27 09:43:24 GMT <angelborroy> yep

2019-03-27 09:43:27 GMT <angelborroy> thanks

2019-03-27 09:43:37 GMT <AFaust> This means the class files generated use the class file version of Java 8, none of the special language features of Java 9+ can be used and the class files will run on Java 8.

2019-03-27 09:43:54 GMT <AFaust> BUT: IF compiled with JDK 11, there may be API incompatibilities.

2019-03-27 09:44:29 GMT <AFaust> Because the source may be compiled against a different JDK library, class files can contain different method signatures in method calls, which may not be resolved in a JDK 8

2019-03-27 09:45:39 GMT <AFaust> We had this kind of problem once before in Alfresco 5.0.? when Alfresco compiled for Java 7 compatibility but used a Java 8 to do it, causing API incompatibilities in the SOLR 4 application.

2019-03-27 09:46:07 GMT <AFaust> Because some generic method signatures did change between Java 7 and Java 8

2019-03-27 09:47:51 GMT <AFaust> So, yes, you can "technically" run 6.1 with Java 8. But if Alfresco actually uses Java 11 for running its Maven build, it may hide some nasty surprises...

2019-03-27 09:49:35 GMT <AFaust> Now if Alfresco did actually employ some Maven experts (which they don't from all experience so far), they would actually use the Maven Toolchain plugin to ensure that the build runs with the correct JDK version depending on the source/target compatibility level.

2019-03-27 09:49:43 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> hi all, just going through the 6.1.2-ga release for community, im a bit perplexed why alfresco is shipping libreoffice 5.4 in the docker image? even checking the doc page for 5.2, its saying get the latest libreoffice, which is 6.22 at the moment. currently 6.1.2-ga community cant preview .doc, .xls or .ppt files in share.

2019-03-27 09:52:54 GMT <AFaust> digcat: Why are you perplexed? Have you ever seen Alfresco update its libraries / included software unless there was some issue to deal with / fix? So of course they still ship LibreOffice 5.4 in Docker until someone files an issue that some things don't work with that...

2019-03-27 09:53:41 GMT <AFaust> ... and the issue can really be traced to the LibreOffice version instead of some other bug...

2019-03-27 09:56:46 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> it was just their help page, https://docs.alfresco.com/5.2/tasks/lo-install.html

2019-03-27 09:56:47 GMT <alfbot> Title:Installing LibreOffice | Alfresco Documentation (at docs.alfresco.com)

2019-03-27 09:56:52 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> so they arent following their own advice

2019-03-27 09:58:13 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> im reasonably sure ive seen this issue before, and having a more current libreoffice did the trick

2019-03-27 10:02:38 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> @digcat sames issue on enterprise 6.1

2019-03-27 10:02:52 GMT <AFaust> Look at the Records Management module - they don't even follow their own advice when it comes to "how to develop modules"

2019-03-27 10:02:54 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> they still use 5.4

2019-03-27 10:04:09 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> @dgradecak are you able to preview .doc, .xls and .ppt files in share ?

2019-03-27 10:04:21 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> yes

2019-03-27 10:04:38 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> although there are some issues with "zombie" processes, but it works on ubuntu at least

2019-03-27 10:05:06 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> but had to install .deb files manually on ubuntu 18

2019-03-27 10:06:55 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> hmm, this is centos, and i see timeouts in the logs, WARNING [OfficeProcessThread-0] org.artofsolving.jodconverter.office.ManagedOfficeProcess$6.attempt office process died with exit code 81; restarting it

2019-03-27 10:07:24 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> i need to check, but when i saw this before a newer version of libreoffice solved it,

2019-03-27 10:08:54 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> it is time for my local devlopment to update libre office, seems it is still 3.4 ... 😃 but it works with on 6.1.2ga also

2019-03-27 10:11:21 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> @digcat try adding those on centos

2019-03-27 10:11:24 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> sudo yum install -y libXrender libSM libICE libXext cups-libs fontconfig libGLU sudo yum install cairo mesa-libGL

2019-03-27 10:11:41 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> I had some notes about that, might help

2019-03-27 10:12:49 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> thanks ill give that a whirl too

2019-03-27 10:23:23 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> ok, now one of the .doc files is showing up, there must be something in these files, checking the sample site, i can see those .doc and .xls, that tip above fixed up one of the .doc files i couldnt preview, so im thinking these files must be generated in some funky way to cause 5.4 to die

2019-03-27 10:37:02 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> did you try with a newly uploaded file?

2019-03-27 10:37:25 GMT <alfresco-discord> <dgradecak> the same as the one that is not working

2019-03-27 11:29:16 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> isolated it down to one xls file, opens ok in excel and libreoffice, but no preview, will bump up the version of libre and see if that helps, but think your points on those additional libraries has helped, need to get those pushed up into the community images, if they are to be used

2019-03-27 11:42:04 GMT <hi-ko> Hi guys, is there anybody familar with Alfresco's activities feed? We are missing feed entries done by a specific user and I'm now looking for a strategy how to debug that

2019-03-27 11:43:00 GMT <hi-ko> is the feed generator relying on index or on db?

2019-03-27 12:00:46 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> morning all

2019-03-27 12:01:03 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> @Francesco Corti answering your question, what I need is something as simple as this

2019-03-27 12:01:04 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/451644531323174914/560433100635635723/unknown.png

2019-03-27 12:01:48 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> for view ^

2019-03-27 12:02:05 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> and for editing:

2019-03-27 12:02:05 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/451644531323174914/560433356962267168/unknown.png

2019-03-27 12:02:59 GMT <alfresco-discord> <douglascrp> basically, what share let us do, as Axel said before: "I am missing a simple "list of properties" option without having to always specify type / aspect..."

2019-03-27 14:13:28 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Francesco Corti> @douglascrp for view, you can do it already. If the concern is on the request to specify the type/aspect into the json... I don't consider this a big effort to ask to developers. ;-) On the edit mode, you are right: the dropdown menu is missing. The gap is about the REST API... but this cannot be an excuse. I'll add this topic to be considered into the next release (3.2 for April/May).

2019-03-27 14:15:06 GMT <alfresco-discord> <FZeller> Hi everyone, I am trying 6.1.2-ga with search services and share 6.1.0 and I have a wierd indexing issue. When I upload a file via alfresco share the indexing go well, and I can search on title, metadata and the file content. But when I upload the same file on the same place in the repository using ans aos webdav mount on windows the search only work on the title and the metadata but not on

2019-03-27 14:15:07 GMT <alfresco-discord> the file content. Anybody already experience something like that ?

2019-03-27 14:16:20 GMT <angelborroy> Have you any logs from that?

2019-03-27 14:16:33 GMT <angelborroy> Let me see if I can reproduce the problem

2019-03-27 14:18:33 GMT <alfresco-discord> <FZeller> which log would be relevant ?

2019-03-27 14:18:39 GMT <angelborroy> solr.log

2019-03-27 14:18:45 GMT <angelborroy> and catalina.out / alfresco.log

2019-03-27 14:19:20 GMT <alfresco-discord> <FZeller> any classes in debug mode ?

2019-03-27 14:19:36 GMT <angelborroy> No by now

2019-03-27 14:20:01 GMT <angelborroy> I’m trying with the same configuration

2019-03-27 14:20:12 GMT <angelborroy> Just to see if I can reproduce the problem

2019-03-27 14:20:18 GMT <alfresco-discord> <FZeller> ok

2019-03-27 14:22:35 GMT <angelborroy> @FZeller are you using multi-locale or single locale?

2019-03-27 14:25:33 GMT <alfresco-discord> <FZeller> don't know I've not configure specific locale

2019-03-27 14:25:54 GMT <alfresco-discord> <FZeller> Was wondering if I have to

2019-03-27 14:26:04 GMT <angelborroy> are you using different locales?

2019-03-27 14:26:17 GMT <angelborroy> You have users with browsers / OSs in different languages?

2019-03-27 14:26:18 GMT <alfresco-discord> <FZeller> we ar in switzerland

2019-03-27 14:26:39 GMT <angelborroy> So you have people with the browser in different locales using the same Alfresco

2019-03-27 14:26:41 GMT <angelborroy> right

2019-03-27 14:26:54 GMT <angelborroy> So you have to configure it in this way

2019-03-27 14:27:15 GMT <angelborroy> https://docs.alfresco.com/search-community/tasks/solr6-install-withoutSSL.html

2019-03-27 14:27:16 GMT <alfbot> Title:Installing and configuring Search Services without SSL | Alfresco Documentation (at docs.alfresco.com)

2019-03-27 14:27:18 GMT <angelborroy> Step 3

2019-03-27 14:31:41 GMT <alfresco-discord> <FZeller> ok will try that too. going to get the logfiles

2019-03-27 14:31:59 GMT <angelborroy> you must do that configuration

2019-03-27 14:32:20 GMT <angelborroy> if not, you are only getting results created in the locale of your client

2019-03-27 15:07:33 GMT <alfresco-discord> <FZeller> modification done another wierd thing with that two files is that via aos mount I can delete the file I have uploaded via aos but not the one uploaded via alfresco share

2019-03-27 15:09:31 GMT <angelborroy> Did you rebuilt your indexes?

2019-03-27 15:09:44 GMT <alfresco-discord> <FZeller> full rebuild ?

2019-03-27 15:09:50 GMT <angelborroy> Yep

2019-03-27 15:09:54 GMT <alfresco-discord> <FZeller> arf

2019-03-27 15:10:01 GMT <alfresco-discord> <FZeller> taking hours

2019-03-27 15:10:01 GMT <angelborroy> I know

2019-03-27 15:10:11 GMT <alfresco-discord> <FZeller> ok I go for it 😛

2019-03-27 15:12:02 GMT <alfresco-discord> <FZeller> thank you for your help I'll tell you tomorow if it works

2019-03-27 15:17:12 GMT <angelborroy> yes, please

2019-03-27 15:17:17 GMT <angelborroy> luck!
