Daily Log for #alfresco

2019-10-31 07:22:28 GMT <alfresco-discord> <monica> Hello everyone, I need suggestions/guidance in a customisation. I want to customise manage-permission's page. groups are added to a folder with some permission. I want something like a button (add user to group) to the page or make groups clickable so that I can add user/users to the particular added group directly. I am trying modifying manage-permissions.js file but not able to find correct way.

2019-10-31 07:22:28 GMT <alfresco-discord> Please guide what could be the way I can try. Thanks

2019-10-31 08:54:08 GMT <phaleth> anyone who knows the lady that made this vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=og3od-86He4 please help her make her Alfresco more secure, it's all open to the internet right now, the web browser is even trying to tell her that in top left corner

2019-10-31 09:01:08 GMT <alfresco-discord> <MorganP> @phaleth: it looks like this is just a demo environment accessible on the internet. I assume it's "normal" even if yes it's in full http which isn't really a good idea... Anyway no, never saw her around here in the past years.

2019-10-31 09:19:40 GMT <phaleth> it's a horrible idea, whoever runs the instance should have no problem getting her a self-signed cert, at least, demo or not, her password is not protected right now

2019-10-31 09:25:13 GMT <alfresco-discord> <SteveF> Hello all ! I'm new in this discord. Thank for your welcome. I need help for a situation and relation between an Alfrescoe erver and RDS Session with Office 365. I explain my case. We are an Alfresco server, and RDS server on wich user of office connect to work. RDS server has Office 365 Pro Plus installed. We work with DC controller with Security Group for manage access. People of office don't work

2019-10-31 09:25:14 GMT <alfresco-discord> with Alfresco share but with Windows network share synchronised with Alfresco server. This solution worked full with Office 2013 but an update of Office posed problem for some time. When a user open Word or Excel files, we systematically, a message in Office program who ask if i must "keep my version" or "keep server version" or another message that must "Save a copy" or "ignore modifications". When i check this

2019-10-31 09:25:14 GMT <alfresco-discord> problem on Internet, no find a similary problem. I'am scared that users are different problem of versionning of files. With external IT, we think the problem is caused by the cache of Office 365 but we are not sure. Have your ever encountered this kind of problem ? Thanks.

2019-10-31 10:21:44 GMT <AFaust> @SteveF: Unfortunately, every other version of Office (and different version of Windows KB updates) works slightly different with regards to the integration with Alfresco. It is all a mess. The only thing you can do is ensure that you have the newest version of AOS installed in Alfresco, and have added the Alfresco server address to IE intranet / trusted zones.

2019-10-31 10:24:00 GMT <AFaust> Ideally, you are using Kerberos SSO for integrated Windows authentication. Also, if you are using a reverse proxy (which is "normal" / best practice), you must ensure that aos.baseUrlOverwrite is correctly set to guarantee that generated document URLs are as consistent as possible.

2019-10-31 10:26:15 GMT <AFaust> In some customer cases, I have found that even the slightest difference in URL encoding between the document URL as sent by Office vs. as sent in Alfresco responses can cause such warning popups to occur. In some cases, there was some double URL encoding at fault, in others Office simply encoded characters slightly different (i.e. encoding characters which don't need encoding)

2019-10-31 13:23:18 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Loftux> So needed to localize major minor version to german. I'll just check how Alfresco has localized it. Turns out there is 3 different variants. Haupt- Unterversion; wesentlich -geringfügig; bedeutende/kleine änderungen.

2019-10-31 13:23:38 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Loftux> What would a German recommend?

2019-10-31 13:36:50 GMT <Tichodroma> Version != Änderung

2019-10-31 13:44:21 GMT <alfresco-discord> <SteveF> @AFaust : I will check this different point, Thanks.

2019-10-31 13:46:54 GMT <AFaust> Loftux: Since this is an IT system and my rule is "there are only 10 languages in IT - English and binary", I would go for just "major" and "minor" version. But unfortunately too many of our typical office workers are allergic to English terms in their business applications, despite the fact they use them frequently in their own private environment...

2019-10-31 13:46:58 GMT <AFaust> Sorry for the rant at the end...

2019-10-31 13:48:01 GMT <AFaust> Hauptversion + Unterversion are my preferred translations when you only have to contend with the default version labeling scheme of X.Y

2019-10-31 13:48:34 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Loftux> End users tend not to (?) think version number, rather is this small or minor changes coming in

2019-10-31 13:48:36 GMT <AFaust> It would be different (more difficult) if we had X.Y.Z

2019-10-31 13:49:04 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Loftux> large or minor changes I meant

2019-10-31 13:49:09 GMT <AFaust> Most end users can't even differentiate what makes a small / minor and a major version semantically.

2019-10-31 13:49:26 GMT <AFaust> Really, most end users can only deal in simple, linear revision numbers.

2019-10-31 13:49:50 GMT <AFaust> Now, if we talk about "power users", things may be different...

2019-10-31 13:51:24 GMT <AFaust> But I may be too corrupted / frustrated by my experience at customers with overwhelmingly "IT inept" user bases. I rarely have seen version labels go beyond the "1.x" value - the most extreme I have seen is a "1.3692"

2019-10-31 13:51:56 GMT <alfresco-discord> <Loftux> I've used for Swedish "Huvudversion" och "Underversion" som which is similar to Hauptversion Unterversion, I'll go with that.

2019-10-31 13:52:29 GMT <AFaust> Yeay for Germanic language commonoalities...

2019-10-31 14:54:09 GMT <hi-ko> Hiho, does anybody remember how to freemarker with the old version included in alfresco ;-) I try to format a date to the german format even the server is running in en_US. I tried things like <#setting locale="de_DE">, <#setting date_format="dd.MM.yyyy">, ?string["dd.MM.yyyy"] but nothing changes the output from default 0000-00-00. Any idea?

2019-10-31 15:20:48 GMT <AFaust> hi-ko: I never had any issues with ?string(format) expressions - old or new versions of Alfresco / FreeMarker

2019-10-31 15:22:11 GMT <AFaust> That's also the only type of use I can find across my various customer projects

2019-10-31 15:22:27 GMT <AFaust> Without any <#setting locale...> stuff

2019-10-31 15:23:07 GMT <AFaust> I guess the locale stuff only comes in play for the defaults and when you use MMM to have month names (or the equivalent for day names)

2019-10-31 15:25:10 GMT <hi-ko> strange.

2019-10-31 16:02:23 GMT <angelborroy> Any experience/interest in having a Terraform deployment for Alfresco?

2019-10-31 16:08:37 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> been playing with it, terraform and ansible

2019-10-31 16:09:03 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> are you thinking of doing one ?

2019-10-31 16:16:47 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> I though you worked on that a devcon or two ago, no ?

2019-10-31 16:16:56 GMT <alfresco-discord> <yreg> I think that was lisabon...

2019-10-31 16:31:28 GMT <angelborroy> I don’t know Terraform

2019-10-31 16:31:39 GMT <angelborroy> Just wondering if it could be useful to have

2019-10-31 17:07:00 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> a good ansible build would be useful, so many people are doing there own, makes getting a best practice much harder to get straight

2019-10-31 17:07:48 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> terraform is useful for standing up the vms, networking, firewalls etc, but using ansible for the config i find works well

2019-10-31 17:08:05 GMT <alfresco-discord> <digcat> nice to be able to do a terraform destroy and see all the vms drop
